How to Coordinate Two Oriental Rugs in the Same Room

One Design Technique

New clients from Rydal Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, came to our Oriental rug showroom in Doylestown Bucks County looking for a round Oriental rug for their dining room and a coordinating long runner for their hallway.

Because their dining room has a very large open entrance to their hallway it was very important to our clients that they find rugs with colors and designs perfectly complementing each other so that their designer could continue with the same color palette in wall paper, paints, and fabrics from one space to the next.

After looking at dozens of excellent possible combinations, our clients choose our beautiful Persian Tabriz design T020 in Ivory & Rose in an all-over pattern for their round dining room rug and the coordinating runner in the same design but with center medallions for their hallway.

Many of our rugs are specifically designed in both an all-over pattern and a medallion pattern for the very function of having more similar rugs in the same space without being identical. Designers and architects often use this technique for the reason that the dye lots and scale of design elements are alike, providing the repeat of pattern and color that creates a pleasing flow and balance to the room’s décor.

The Perfect Oriental Runner for Villanova PA Clients

The Perfect Rug Runner - Blue Kerman Lavar wool & silk runner

Fortunately we had in our inventory a gorgeous blue Kerman Lavar wool & silk runner that was very close to the one they had been searching for!


When you know what you want and finally find it after tenaciously searching store after store for a very long time, it really is a wonderful moment. That’s exactly what happened for one thrilled couple from Villanova Pa when they found the perfect Oriental runner for their gorgeous new Main Line home in our Nejad Rugs Doylestown Bucks County showroom.

Maryann had seen a similar runner in a interior design magazine and immediately fell in love with its brilliant blues and intricate artistic design. Donald, her husband, told us that this runner had become a bit of an obsession for his wife and that she refused to settle for anything else, leaving their marble floor hallway bare since they purchased their home over a year ago.

Maryann and Donald had actually come to us because they saw on our website that we design Oriental rugs and were hoping that they could commission us to design and weave a custom runner based on the magazine’s photograph. After visiting “too many rug stores to count” they all but gave up on the
idea of actually finding a similar runner in stock.

Lucky for our couple we had in our inventory a gorgeous blue Kerman Lavar wool & silk runner very close to the one Maryann had been searching for. When our staff pulled the runner out from the pile she was so ecstatic she literally started jumping up and down, repeating over and over that she knew she’d find it. It was a great moment for everyone and we couldn’t be more pleased that we were able to fulfill our customers’ vision of the perfect runner.

A natural light filled sunroom in this gorgeous new home by Toll Brothers Builders in Newtown PA needed an Oriental rug that would enhance the open airiness of the space by complimenting the room’s warm tones with rich texture and design. A handmade wool Oriental rug designed by Theresa Nejad from Nejad Rugs in Doylestown Bucks County was the perfect choice with its soft beige gold field and all over floral and scroll design accented in colors of sage green,
soft rust, and chocolate brown. The velvety chenille
upholstery fabric on the sofa and love seat was carefully selected to coordinate with the rug’s main beige gold color. The throw pillows feature contrasting fabric and trim repeating the rug’s color palette and the large potted plants are very similar to the green hues in the rug.

Oriental Rugs Furlong PA 18925 Nejad Gallery Client

A very dear client of mine who has purchased many rugs from me over  the years stopped by Doylestown this week to congratulate everyone on Nejad Gallery’s 30th Anniversary.  Her magnificent home in Furlong, PA was professionally decorated by a dear friend of mine and is one of the most beautifully finished homes in Bucks County.  Every room is perfectly appointed with antique furniture intermixed with hand selected quality pieces purchased during trips to New York and High Point, North Carolina trade showrooms.  Every floor, hallway, staircase and vestibule is covered with exquisite investment quality Persian Tabriz, Esfahan and Nain rugs that I sold to her over the years. Careful coordination of fabrics, wall coverings and paint colors make each room a spectacular living space.

As we reminisced, we both became nostalgic remembering the elaborate preparations for her daughter’s wedding and working with one very flamboyant party planner for a special dinner party fund raiser. Sitting on a pile of rugs, we talked for a long while until she got up, gave me a big hug and said how much she appreciated all my hard work and how beautiful our rugs have made her home, wishing us another successful 30 years in business.  I couldn’t ask for a more wonderful compliment!
